With the anticipated Apex Legends Season 1 release today, players quickly found out that solo and duo game modes were not part of the release. This is a huge disappointment across the community.
Apex Legends Season 1 Won’t See Solos or Duos
Earlier in the month, fans of Apex Legends quickly learned that data miners have uncovered files containing “solo and duo” game mode strings. When Apex Legends was released, everyone quickly noticed there was no solo or duo game modes. So the next question asked was if these game modes would even be offered; which was confirmed via various “Leak” sites and social media accounts.
When will it be released?
The next question was, when would these game modes be released? The most logical answer is when downloads slow down and the core player base has been established. Having a three-man squad at the beginning was a good move for the Apex Legends launch. It was the perfect marketing strategy for Respawn Entertainment to properly grow it’s new battle royale game. On top of the heavy promotion through various streamers and media sites, Respawn Entertainment figured that word-of-mouth would be one of their main marketing channels. Players would spread the word of the new Battle Royale and encourage their friends to download the game and play with them, thus, increase the user base.
If Apex Legends offered a solo game mode for players who are not fans of squad teaming, word-of-mouth wouldn’t be as effective. So in theory, once downloads slowdown, solo and duo modes should logically make their way to the game in order to keep interest levels at a peak. Well, there’s no solo or duo game modes attached with the release of Apex Legends Season 1, Wild Frontier. And @RealApexLeaks just announced that the game mode strings were removed from the files.

Where do we go from here?
Assuming that the main reason for not releasing a solo / duo game mode is due to the fact that the game is not even two months old. And Apex Legends still have a lot of growing to do before it starts to implement new game modes. Black Ops 4 “Blackout” battle royale had a “solo” mode right from the beginning. Although there’s no official player count for Blackout, considering that the game is hasn’t been in the top 10 of most watched games on Twitch is a telling sign. Perhaps Respawn Entertainment took notes from Blackout and figured that holding off on any solo game modes would be best for the game’s user acquisition.
