As part of their celebration for their 20th anniversary, Bungie is selling a bunch of original art and a 1:1 scale replica of a battle rifle. Every dollar the auctions bring in will go to the Child’s Play charity. This is a great move on Bungie’s part because these auctions will close at very high prices. If you’re a Halo fan and have the money, you will find some tempting items here today. It’s easier to put down a lot of money when you know it’s going to a good cause. Not only do you get the item, but you’re making a donation too.
First let’s take a look at the only item that isn’t a piece of original art.
This amazing looking UNSC Battle Rifle is an original work from the Weta Workshop. It was made to be used in Neill Blomkamp’s Halo 3 promotional short film called Halo 3: Landfall. If you haven’t seen the promo before, it’s really worth checking out. I don’t know what the budget was but, damn, it had to be pretty high for a 7 minute promo.
You can find the auction for the rifle here: Original Halo Weta UNSC Battle Rifle
Next up is the piece of art that I would want most. It’s the original drawing for a Halo comic by Penny Arcade’s Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins.
It would be cool to have this because I’ve been a fan of the Penny Arcade comics for a long time. If you want to make a bid, you can find the auction here: Original Penny Arcade “Jim Bean” Comic Strip
The bulk of the auctions Bungie has set up are for original concept art. These are crazy valuable because they are one of a kind pieces of art and were directly used in the design of the game. All of the auctions are listed below and bids are stacking up. Every auction (including those linked above) will close in 5 days. This is a rare chance to get a valuable piece of Halo history. Good luck to everyone on their bids!
