Extremely Rare Apple Pippin Console Black CIB PW-10001 PW-20010 NTSC US

If we still have people reading our posts, then you’re probably wondering why there’s not a lot of activity right now. Well to be honest there’s a big transformation happening in the next few weeks to a month! When it comes it comes and you all will be notified! But in the meantime I couldn’t pass up on this auction. When a museum piece comes along I have to make sure the word gets out there. Someone on eBay is selling an Apple Pippin Console. In short, this was Apple’s all-in-one multimedia player. Here’s what Wikipedia says:

The Apple Pippin is an open platform, multimedia technology platform, designed by Apple Computer, and marketed as PiPP!N. According to Apple, Pippin was directed at the home market as “an integral part of the consumer audiovisual, stereo, and television environment.”

Pippin is based on the Apple Macintosh platform, including the classic Mac OS architecture. Apple built a demonstration device based on Pippin called “Pippin Power Player,” and used it to demonstrate the platform at trade shows and to the media, in order to attract potential software developers and hardware manufacturers.[2] Apple licensed the Pippin technology to third-party companies. Bandai Company Ltd. developed the ATMARK and @WORLD models, and focused them on the gaming and entertainment business in Japan and the United States. Katz Media developed the KMP 2000, and focused it on vertical markets throughout Europe and Canada.Wikipedia

The seller go his hands on this through from the original owner who pre-ordered it from Apple. Below is the description taken from the auction:

I am auctioning off a complete-in-box NTSC-US American release Apple Pippin @world black console. It comes with everything in the pictures. (Please look at all the pictures to judge) I bought this off the original owner who pre-ordered it directly from Apple back when it was announced. I honestly never seen another complete-in-box PW-10001 Apple pippin, so I am basing my this information off what the original owner told me.

I been collecting over a decade and i never seen another U.S. boxed pippin aside from this one on here or in person. All manuals are completely in English as you can also see in the pictures. This is 100% the hard-to-find Ametican release.

It works fine as I last test it before I posted here. (See pictures) All the buttons were responsive and gave me no problem during testing. The console is all #s matching to the outside and inner box. I read on some forum that thid might have come with a modem but as I couldn’t find another complete in box to compare it too.

This comes from a no smoking or dawgs allowed home. Any questions please feel free to ask. Thank you

Okay, thank you to everyone showing great interest in my listings and I would like to add a little bit more information as I receive questions and messages. First and foremost this is the more uncommon PW-20010 variant (as if the system is not uncommon as it is) Now how can you tell this is the PW-20010? If you look carefully in the first picture on the bottom front part of the outer brown box, you can clearly read PW-20010. These did not come with a keyboard like the retail version (white box) @world pippin did and is also mentioned in the user’s manual. The original owner told me he ordered this directly from Apple and did not buy it off a retail store. I never seen another PW-20010 as I have spent weeks looking for pictures and details regarding this variant. I believe it came with a modem but still unsure. I cleaned it and made sure it was ready to wow whoever will be the next owner of this obscure gaming console. I think it might be a while before another one like this pops up here, so I wouldn’t recommend you let this opportunity slide.

Again, I turned on the system and it ran smoothly. Thank you and I will keep updating this listing if receive anymore information.

On Apr-26-17 at 16:12:58 PDT, seller added the following information:
Ok this will probably be the last update I give on the listing before I let it run its course. This system contains a BETA pippin @world online suite premium (picture 3) which was never for sale and was given to a few selected customers (refer to picture 10 for proof). The Beta release was done in March 1998! which at the time the system was already considered a failed attempt. At this time, this is the only known copy of the software and it has never been dumped into the internet. The Beta software comes with its original Addendum letter (picture 10) which adds to the rarity of it.

I will leave it up to the winner to decide what to do with the Beta disc. Thank you again and good luck to all.

Last I checked the auction went up from $450 to $570 now. I expect this item to go beyond the $1000 given it’s history, but it comes down to the demand. How many Apple collectors are interested in owning the Pippin? Will general console collectors want a piece of this museum piece? Let’s see how it goes, but if you’re interested in the auction the link is below:
