- Fortnite continues to have server problems, and players want quality updates. Does Fortnite need a test server at this point?
Does Fortnite Need a Test Server?
If you rarely play Fortnite, then you probably don’t know the current state. Fortnite’s Season 10 did not go according to plan. Season 10 began with a lot of new and exciting features such as the map getting updated in various ways. Also, we have seen some interesting changes coming into the game. However, players did not enjoy most of these changes one bit such as the BRUTE addition. This was not the best season for Fortnite and will be considered by many as one of the worst. Of course, Fortnite is a huge game and the expectations are high for Epic Games to continue to innovate and bring new ideas to the battle royale game, which is why they are frequently updating the game. In fact, no other company can compete with them in terms of updates.
However, I believe their update schedule is working against them. In order to keep the game updated Epic Games is pushing itself to make as many updates as possible, sometimes more than twice during the week. This is creating a problem that, sometimes, these updates are not producing good results because the quality control is not there. One possible solution is Epic Games can make a live test server. This is an interesting concept because most of the big shooter AAA games have a live test server. This server allows players to test the game changes before it comes out to the live version.
Of course, Epic Games implementing a new live test server is a big deal. Additionally, we are sure that it will prevent most of the problems. If this is achieved, it will be well worth it.
Updates in Fortnite
Updates will come into the game in a more balanced way. For example, if players had a chance prior to Fortnite Season 10 to check and play with BRUTE, all the issues that players experienced for 1.5 months wouldn’t have existed. Players would be able to tell Epic Games what they don’t like about this particular update. This would solve many issues that players have toe face with every update.
Also, there is also another side of this medallion. We are expecting Epic Games to install a live test server after 2 years of gameplay. However, right now the community of Fortnite is a community of hardcore players. Fortnite is not gaining new players. The revenue dropped to two percent only. This means that we are at a plateau right now.
However, this can be reversed. Fortnite is still the biggest game in the world right now. All the updates that Epic games rolls out are certainly good for the longevity of the game, but they need to allow the player base to test new ideas out. This will allow players to confirm if those new ideas are worth implementing. Also, they will have the leverage to say that during the testing phase players gave all the feedback necessary, so if a new vehicle or item ends up ruining the user experience, Epic Games can’t be held fully responsible. Players would not have an argument against these updates.
We believe that they should implement a live testing server for the game as it will not only safeguard online play, but a lot of the headaches we see now in the community will drastically decrease. We hope that Epic Games will consider this at least.
