- Fortnite Celebration Cup is coming to PS4 only and this will be the first major tournament as a console exclusive.
Fortnite has established itself as a solid esports title, and will now be supporting exclusive console tournaments. Even though there are many bugs with the game; most notably the recent controller player’s problems, Epic Games is still ironclad about supporting the consoles. Let us take a step back here. Fortnite’s best move was to come to the consoles before any other Battle Royale title. PUBG signed an exclusivity deal with Xbox to do this, however, with cross-play features Fortnite was available on PS, Xbox, and PC. This allowed the game to reach a much bigger audience than other games in this genre. Since PlayStation is the biggest market in the gaming industry it was only logical that Fortnite would do and try to dominate that market.
However, this was before the esports entrance for the game. The recent changes in Fortnite allowed controller players to have aim assist and build faster. But this did not mean for Fortnite to create an esports game around cross-play. These days controller players and PC players are locked in a battle. With that, Epic Games has announced a Fortnite Celebration Cup tournament which will be only available on PS4. This is not a small competition since the prize pool is 1 million dollars. In the past, we saw Fortnite making these types of tournaments as well, however, it was not this big and it was only in Japan whereas this one is for NA and EU.

$1 million Fortnite Celebration Cup will be taking place on February 15-16. All eligible players can enter to earn cash prizes also in-game items. As we have mentioned before, the tournament is only open to PS4 users. Recently we also saw big feuds over the amount of prize money between mobile users and PC players in the Fortnite Winter Royale and players hated it. We need to see how this will play out in the Fortnite community.
