Epic Games is constantly adding new items and designs to Fortnite, with some of the items being redesigns from prior Epic titles
Epic Games, founded by Tim Sweeney in his parent’s house back in 1991 while he was a university student. The company went through many different changes, and now, in 2018, are without a doubt one of the most successful companies in the gaming industry. During its 28 year journey, Epic has created a variety of successful titles and many game engines. Their Unity engine is still widely used. Games such as Angry Birds 2 was done with Unity Engine. However, when Fortnite Save the World was announced after the success of PUBG, Epic announced a Free-to-Play mode called Fortnite Battle Royale.
The Infinity Blade
Fortnite Battle Royale is a huge success mostly due to the fact that the game is free. Although at first glance, it seemed like no game could overcome PUBG, Fortnite blew it out of the water. It is now estimated that Fortnite has grown its player base to over 200 million.
The game itself has transformed a lot since its launch. However, some of the upcoming additions are being inspired from old Epic Games titles. For example, the most recognizable recent addition is the Infinity Blade. The Infinity Blade is actually a book by author Brandon Sanderson. The Infinity Blade later became a video game, for iOS, that Epic launched on the mobile games market in 2010 and removed in December 2018. The game won many accolades over its lifecycle. Fortnite Battle Royale Season 7 also saw the addition of Infinity Blade as weapon in the game. As most fans complained of its overpowering presence, the Infinity Blade was later vaulted. Here is an image of the Infinity Blade book cover and the mobile game. An obvious replica of the sword added in Fortnite Season 7
The hilt and the guard of the blade are nearly identical, while the shape is the same.
A.I.M Fortnite skin inspired by Robo Recall
Another recycled idea comes from a VR game developed by Epic in 2017 called Robo Recall. The game was a VR smash, receiving an excellent rating from both IGN and The Guardian. It was a nomination for 2017 best VR game at the Golden Joystick Awards. The Fortnite A.I.M. skin was clearly designed and inspired from the Robo Recall game characters.
The skin and the Robo Recall character are very similar.
It is very interesting to find and compare new designs added into Fortnite that Epic games has used for their prior titles.
