Fortnite Battle Royale v7.40 update has many changes and additions, here is a breakdown of the patch notes.
Fortnite Battle Royale v7.40 update is now available. Season 7 will be in just over 2 weeks and many speculations are floating around Season 8. Regardless, Fortnite has seed its biggest resistance, since the release of Apex Legends. However, the Fortnite player base is so massive it did not actually create panic at Epic Games. Here is your Fortnite v7.40 Update Breakdown.
#SharetheLove Valentine’s Surprise
A very unique event, everyone who completes 13 free overtime challenges by February 27 will receive the season 8 battle pass for free. With the Battle Pass, you’ll receive two Season 8 Outfits instantly, with the possibility of earning up to five more. The microtransaction of the battle pass is bread and butter for the Epic Games and this is a smart move to keep player engagement strong as Apex Legends lurks in its footsteps.
Gifting – Limited Time
Gifting is back for a brief time, ending February 22nd. Also, you will be able to send a free Heartspan Glider to a special partner.
The Infantry Rifle has officially arrived. As expected, the gun looks exactly like an M1 Grand. It’s a semi-automatic weapon. Tfue is already calling the new gun “Trash” but Tfue calls everything trash. It’s available in Common, Uncommon and Rare variants. Damage is 41 for Common, 43 Uncommon and 45 for Rare variant. As expected, the gun includes 2x headshot multiplier. Players can get it from floor loot, chests and vending machines. Interestingly, the Infantry Rifle uses Medium Ammo. Bullet velocity is fast for a rifle class.
Weapons and Item Changes
The Bush consumable is now translucent and the fall damage will not take it away. It will also absorb one instance of weapon damage before shedding off. This might be a last call to try and save the bush from the vault.
Hand Cannon environmental damage (building damage) is nerfed for both variants. Damage is now down to 100 from 150 and the Legendary variant now sits at 105. A nerf that had been made publicly before the 7.40 update was released.
Rocket Launchers will only be available from supply drops and vending machines. Therefore, no more early game deaths. Reload speed is slowed down to 3.42 sec.
Clingers swap places with Grenades, as they return to the game while grenades hit the vault.
Also, Cupid’s Crossbow is back, available in Epic Rarity with 79 body damage and whopping 197 headshot damage. The Crossbow environmental damage sits at 1.
Limited Time Mode Rotations
The LTM rotations are also changing. There are 2 rotations, with one being the LTM Catch. The mode consists of players using only grenades with no guns available to equip. The other LTM is Team Rumble, with the first team earning 100 kills wins the game.
Starting with the v7.40 release, complete 13 free Overtime Challenges by February 27 to receive the upcoming Season 8 Battle Pass for Free. Additionally, players will be able to unlock 5 new rewards including the Valentine Wrap and Vines Contrail for completing these Challenges. By completing these challenges players will be able to unlock Season 8 Battle Pass. One important factor to consider is players need to be at level 47 for it to work.
For current Battle Pass owners, the Overtime Challenge rewards include: New unlockable styles for the Trog, Powder, and Onesie outfits.
Included in the Fortnite v7.40 update are some major gameplay changes. The pop-up cup settings will be applied to default playlists. The patch notes explain this as the following “We’re introducing a few larger changes into the default Fortnite playlist as a test. We’ve seen these settings in pop-up cups result in more engaging fights and allowing players to gain more consistent rewards for the risk of engagement.”
The changes coming into the default matches are:
- 50 Health (or Shield) based on your health when the Elimination occurs.
- 50/50/50 materials dropped on Elimination
- 500/500/500 Cap on materials
- Harvest rate increased by 40%
Pros love the changes because of the material additions for eliminations.
X-4 Stormwing planes will not be able to break and smash through structures anymore. Also, zip lines don’t provide anymore fall damage.
Creative Mode Changes
Fortnite v7.40 update allows creators to change the sizes of their props. This is a very interesting addition to the creative mode. Also, there will be a watermark over the featured creations showing their Code numbers. Epic Games added four new props being: the Obstacle Course, Arctic Base, Winter Village, and Ice Castle prefabs. However they stated more changes will be coming shortly.
