Fortnite Battle Royale’s new addition to the game, BRUTE, looks very similar to D.Va from Overwatch. Did the Fortnite use D.Va for inspiration?
The BRUTE Mech Looks Like D.Va
Gaming companies use each other all the time for ideas and inspiration. If there is a nice idea in another game that you can implement into your game, developers will include it without any doubt. We have seen this happening countless times before. For example, Apex Legends’ pinging system was a huge hit, and two weeks later CS:GO’s Danger Zone implemented the same idea in their game. Of course, this is expected; each game is bringing something unique onto the table. However, things are much more different when the games start nearly taking a design from each other. Today we will take a look at something very interesting and it is between two immensely popular games; Fortnite and Overwatch.
Fortnite Season 10
Season 10 introduced a new robotic vehicle in the game called BRUTE. This mech is amazing, but it is overpowered. However, there’s something familiar about it. The BRUTE does look and feel exactly like Overwatch D.Va’s mech Tokki. Let us compare their looks.
They do look extremely similar to each other. On top of this, let us check their abilities. Both BRUTE and D.Va Tokki have a shotgun on one weapon slot and rockets in the other one. They both have the same ability to destroy themselves and cause collateral damage in a certain radius. Both BRUTE and D.Va Tokki have super jump as an ability. On top of this, both can use shields to boost health.
So, did Fortnite take a chapter out of Overwatch’s book?
Brute and D.Va’s Tokki are just too similar to pass up. However, Overwatch’s implement of D.Va is much better in that regard, after all, it is a hero shooter game, and players in Overwatch love it. But, BRUTE, on the other hand, is facing hard criticism from players. This is due to the fact this is a free-for-all Battle Royale game and nobody should have an advantage with something like “BRUTE” over each other. BRUTE will have to be nerfed soon by Epic Games to keep the playing field at bay.
