We’ve witnessed the launch of plenty of battle royale games as the years have passed by. However, the hype around Fall Guys; the newly launched last man standing battle royale by Devolver Digital has undoubtedly turned some heads.
Released on August 4, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a last man standing title. Mediatonic has developed the game, and Devolver Digital is its publisher. For now, the game is only available on Steam and Playstation 4. Steam listed it at $8.19 while it is free for this month on Playstation Plus.
The launch of yet another battle royale might disgust some players. However, this title is entirely different. In a single match, there are consecutive rounds of multiple mini-games. The target is to qualify for the next round by completing a goal. However, it’s not as simple as you think. Lots of obstacles will be thrown your way as you try to qualify for the next round. In the last round, players will fight it out to determine the winner. The team has stated that much of the game has taken inspiration from game shows such as Takeshi’s Castle, Wipeout and It’s a Knockout.
Here’s GameRiot with their take on Fall Guys:
Why the hype around Fall Guys?
The hype around Fall Guys is much more than you think. Fall Guys is the top-grossing and top-selling game of Steam this week. It had 1.5 million players in its first 24 hours making the servers crash. It’s also currently the second-highest watched game on Twitch after League of Legends.
So, why so much buzz around Fall Guys? Firstly, the price. It’s free on Playstation Plus and under $10 on Steam. It’s supposed to get a lot of people playing it! Gamers are spending more money than ever right now behind games. Secondly, the game itself is easy to play. You don’t have to get all technical while playing it. Finally, it’s extremely satisfying when you can get a win. Yes, some might argue that’s frustrating as well when you can’t time a jump or get smacked by an object. But I assure you, it’s even more fun when you finally manage a win.
Fall Guys really needs to up their server game if they want to keep their hype up. It will be exciting to see what they come up with next!
