World of Warcraft Classic Is Making A Comeback On Twitch
World of Warcraft or commonly known as WoW was “the game” for many years. Players from all over the world played the game religiously and saying it had a massive following would be an understatement. World of Warcraft changed the video gaming industry by taking MMORPG’s to a whole new level. Of course, as the years passed, WoW started to lose popularity. The user base would shift to newer games, specifically Minecraft, and looking from the outside in, there was a huge demographic shift. The core users of WoW were getting older, and their behaviors changed.
To be brutally honest here; do we have time to spend hours on Azeroth as we did before? Personally, I am not able to dedicate the same time to a game, specifically WoW, as I did in the past. Another note worth mentioning was that player would leave the game with the mistakes done at Battle for Azeroth DLC. However, Blizzard came up with something else.

Players from all over the world agreed on one thing. World of Warcraft was better for the first 5-6 years. Therefore, they demanded for a long time for the Vanilla Servers. However, Blizzard did not agree to this. We did not see any servers until now besides the unofficial servers. When Blizzard announced that the World of Warcraft Classic will be released on 27 August, the community erupted, and many gamers who left WoW would be coming back.
Since World Of Warcraft Classic launched half a month ago, it created a massive spike on Twitch. Now typically that’s the case with many games, however, the spike was massive. Let us check the data.
As you can see World of Warcraft does have a significant spike on the 27th of August. This is the release date of course. It has been nearly half a month since the release. Obviously the game does not have the same level since. It spiked over 475 thousand players on 27th. What is interesting is that it did not take a chunk from other video games. Fortnite, LoL and also Dota has the same numbers with little changes as before. We can clearly see that this massive spike was created by returning players who wanted to check out the game and reminisce about the old times. We have seen some really long queue times until now in the WoW Classic servers also. This means that players are still excited about the game and willing to give it a try.
On the other hand, Blizzard also announced that they will continue to support this version of the game. They left an open gate for the possible Burning Crusade Servers opening up in the future. Probably the only game which can be released twice and gets attention until now is World of Warcraft. Players can see another pattern, and one of the most well-known World of Warcraft streamer is Asmongold. His channel doubled over since WoW Classic was released. This was expected after the initial release but his channel is retaining numbers.
