Before OpTic Karma joined OpTic Gaming, he had an opportunity to join the new esports organization called 100 Thieves, lead by Matt “Nadeshot” Haag and backed by celebrities like Drake. However, h turned down 100 Thieves and joined OpTic Gaming which proved to be the best decision for both Karma and OpTic.
OpTic Karma Explains Why He Turned Down 100 Thieves
Damon “Karma” Barlow has been part of OpTic Gaming since 2014, however, earlier this year there was some drama in the esports world of Call of Duty when Karma made it official he was leaving OpTic Gaming via an episode of Vision on the 6th of May this year.
Although Karma received offers from different teams, he decided to take some time off as all the offers on the table wasn’t up to par. There were also trade offers on the table such as Karma replacing Thomas ‘ZooMaa’ Paparatto. But Damon didn’t want to replace ZooMaa; instead opting to replace “Replays”. Karma also mentioned the reason why he wasn’t playing with OpTic Gaming anymore:
“I thought it was going to be me, Sam, Seth, and Ian but somewhere down the road I guess Seth just didn’t wanna play with me. That’s pretty much why I’m not playing on the team. That’s one thing I wanted to talk about. It was pretty much kinda like the EG situation – when I figured out that people just didn’t wanna play with me I was just like f**k it, not playing now.”
There wasn’t any serious beef between Scump and Karma, but perhaps they had their differences.
Offer from 100 Thieves
With the new esports organization formed, 100 Thieves have been looking to build a solid Call of Duty esports team. The logical decision would be to jump on a high calibur player like Damon “Karma” Barlow, who at that point has seen hi fair share of success stories with OpTic Gaming and Call of Duty esports. Karma, up till that point had impressive stats and titles under his belt. Being dominant in games like Call of duty Infinite Warfare, World War II, Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3. Karma’s a force not to mess with in COD games and 100 Thieves wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to offer Karma a position on their team. The CWL Champion of 2013, 2014 and 2017 was on everyone’s list and an offer had to be enticing enough for him to jump ship.
In one of Dashy’s streams, Karma was in on the call and told OpTic Dashy the reason he didn’t join 100 Thieves. This is what Karma said:
“They told me that Pharaoh was going to be the flex and I’m like listen dude, like, if I’m joining that team I am being that guy I am not running a sub like I’m probably would’ve been a saug.”
Dash responds with “Yo Imagine they had to running a saug bro“, and Damn finises saying “I would’ve been a free kill on the map dude“.
