  • From August 29th to September 16th, the celebratory skin of London Spitfire’s victory of the 2018 Overwatch League playoffs will be available to purchase at the cost of your League Tokens. Here’s everything you need to know.

Who Are The London Spitfire?

The London Spitfire is an Overwatch League esports team who represents the city of London, England. The team itself is owned by the relatively notorious esports organization, Cloud9. With some of these players even being part of Cloud9 Kungdoo as well as GC Busan.

On August 10, 2017, Cloud9 announced that they had bought the London slot as one of the 12 teams participating in the inaugural season. Following that announcement, on November 1st, the London Spitfire branding was revealed, with their roster being revealed only 3 days later on November 4th.

The team’s name, Spitfire, is actually a reference to the much-loved backbone of the RAF Fighter Command, the Supermarine Spitfire. Supermarine Spitfire is a single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force (and other Allied countries) before, during, and after the second world war.

The Flying Ace

Overwatch’s newest league oriented skin is one made specifically to celebrate the 2018 Overwatch League victory by London Spitfire. According to a post titled “Aces of the sky” by Emerald Gao on the Overwatch League website, the dev team was working on this skin for months.

They spent their time researching not only the Spitfire plane itself but the attire of the pilots in order to pay proper tribute.

The skin itself uses the three primary colors of London Spitfire’s unique logo; light almost baby blue, a vibrant orange and a darker ocean-like blue. The battle-worn “Aces High” painted on the side of the fuselage and the propellers are inspired by the Spitfire Mark II plane.

Even the shape of the wings of Winston’s booster packs are a tribute to the pilots/the plane as they all match the engine of the original Spitfire. His booster packs are actually a fuel tank that certain models had, and then on the sides, the exhaust vents also match the engine of the original.

How To Unlock Winston’s New Flying Ace London Spitfire Skin

Traditionally, skins are unlocked via loot boxes and/or purchase by way of in-game currency. Both of which are earned by leveling up your profile by playing games. However, the process of getting a League skin is very different and takes a bit more time and or irl money. The new Flying Ace Winston skin can only be unlocked by spending 200 league tokens, or 10$.

If you want to buy the skin outright you can and it’s easy; earning these 200 tokens is the tricky part. League tokens can be earned by watching Overwatch League matches on Twitch, as long as your Blizzard/Overwatch account is linked to your Twitch account. If the accounts are not linked you won’t earn any tokens. If sitting and watching the games to earn tokens isn’t your style, you could always try your luck with at “League Picks”.  All you have to do to earn tokens this way is to make accurate predictions for Overwatch matches from a list of choices provided. As this skin is only available for a limited time, till September 16th, the safest and guaranteed way to get the skin would be to buy it outright for 10$. And if that’s not your style, good luck.
